Unsurprisingly, a pre-Christmas shopping and sightseeing trip to the USA was also favourable among UK travellers, since 8.4% plan to head stateside to cities such as New York, Orlando and Los Angeles. Other winter breaks popular with UK travellers between November 2016 and February 2017 include catching the southern hemisphere’s summer heat during a beach and sightseeing trip to Australia (6.6%) and a foodie tour to Spain (6.6%), with Sydney, Melbourne, Barcelona, Madrid and Ibiza topping the list of sunny destinations.
By using TourBar’s website and app, over one million global members can sign up for free and register an upcoming solo trip to match with another member with similar interests who is also travelling alone in that destination. Alternatively, for those following the trend and taking a cosy staycation in the UK this winter, travellers can take the option to register as a Guide to tour solo travellers and make like-minded friends in the process.
A wintry trip to escape the monotony of home appears to be most in-demand with younger travellers, since 33% of those who have registered winter travel plans through TourBar are aged 25 – 34 years old and following this, 28% are aged 35 – 44 years old. Furthermore, the majority (65%) of those planning to travel unaccompanied this winter are male.
TourBar’s Public Relations Manager, Anastasia Zolotova, added: “With the majority of our UK members planning a domestic trip within the UK this winter, TourBar offers the perfect opportunity to act as a Guide for those who are travelling to the UK from abroad. With so many UK cities holding festive activities this winter, the handy Guide feature offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a hot drink with travellers who may be looking for the expertise and experience of a local British guide.”
