The number of UK globetrotters who signed up to try their hand at travel dating in the first week of 2016 rose by 1,300%% year-on-year (YOY), according to leading travel dating website and app tourbar.com. The figures reflect the growing trend for solo travellers to use platforms such as TourBar to meet like-minded travellers especially with the start of the new year when people begin to make resolutions and holiday plans for the year ahead.

Some 1,400 UK travel-lovers signed up for TourBar in the first week of January 2016, compared to 100 in the same period in January 2015, with the recent uplift bringing the total number of UK members to over 23,000.

TourBar allows its members to sign up for free and register their travel plans and interests in order to meet up with a like-minded companion to join them on their trip. For those who have no immediate travel plans of their own, the website and app allows them to register as a guide to host incoming travellers in their home city.

The rising trend to meet new friends and partners to travel with has also been felt on a global scale, with 31,000 global travellers signing up to try out the social networking platform in the first week of January 2016, increasing the global membership figure to over 811,000.

TourBar’s Public Relations Manager, Anastasia Zolotova, added: “The huge increase in our membership figures for the first week of January 2016 is very impressive. TourBar experienced huge growth in 2015 as people discovered the charm of meeting fellow global travellers with similar interests as them. It’s very encouraging to see this trend carry on into 2016 and we are expecting to see our membership figures peak around Valentine’s day as people look for new and fun ways to a meet a partner.”
